Arm Lift / Brachioplasty
Many men and women are self-conscious about sagging skin on their arms, as it can off-set their overall appearance. Sagging arm skin is typical in people who have undergone dramatic weight loss. This problem is more common in women, as they find it more difficult to get rid of excess fat in the upper arm area, even with rigorous exercise. The upper arm skin can become loose and flabby with age as well.
Although it can be difficult to reduce excess fat and skin along the arms, a board-certified surgeon like Dr. Wigoda can perform a Brachioplasty, or arm lift procedure, to help reduce the excess skin that droops below the arms. Arm lift procedures are implemented to remove loose skin and/or excess fat from the upper arm. Patients can choose between two different kinds of arm lift surgeries at our South Florida cosmetic center: a full arm lift or a limited incision arm lift.
Full Arm Lift
In a full arm lift procedure, fatty tissue is contoured within the arm, and unwanted skin is removed. The remaining skin is pulled and sutured in place, to create a slimmer and firmer arm. This procedure is most common for patients with a moderate to a large amount of extra skin. A full arm lift incision runs the length of the upper arm but is positioned on the inner surface to hide as much as possible.
Limited Incision Arm Lift
With a limited incision arm lift, an incision is made within the armpit, and excess tissue is removed, then remaining skin is pulled into a tighter position. This procedure is best for those with minimal excess flabby skin on the arms. The upper arm can be treated with liposuction if the primary problem is excess fat, or, with a combination of liposuction and removal of excess skin if the skin is loose. The incision for removal and tightening of the skin can be hidden in the armpit if there is only a moderate amount of excess skin.
If there is a significant amount of skin to remove, the incision is placed along the inner aspect of the arm to minimize visibility.
