Bypass Plastic Surgery
Bariatric surgery is becoming an increasingly popular procedure in the United States. As techniques have improved, the safety of the procedure has improved as well. Patients often lose over 100 pounds (and often much more) over a one to two year period following the surgery. While the overall health of the patient is dramatically improved with the massive weight loss, one of the unfortunate byproducts of the procedure is the development of loose skin. Generally speaking, patients are very happy to have lost the excess weight. However, the presence of loose, hanging skin can be distressing. It can also cause some difficulty with hygiene and with finding comfortable fitting clothing.
Fortunately, with plastic surgery, much of this excess skin can be removed and the overall body contour vastly improved. Special techniques are required because of the unique problem that massive weight loss patients develop. In fact, each patient's surgery has to be tailored specifically for their body. The areas that may require treatment include the face and neck, male chest, female breasts, arms, abdomen, back, and thighs. Surgery involving more than one area can be performed in one setting in certain cases if it is desired and if Dr. Wigoda feels it can be performed safely. Dr. Wigoda uses the latest techniques and technologies including tissue glue and "anesthetic pumps" that you go home with to minimize pain and discomfort. Dr. Wigoda also uses techniques to minimize blood loss and the need for blood transfusions.
Depending on the situation, the surgery can be performed in our outpatient surgery center or in the hospital. Patients may stay overnight in the hospital if needed and/or may have a registered nurse stay with them at home or a nearby hotel.
Dr. Wigoda has treated many bariatric patients and will be happy to discuss the options with you during your complimentary consultation. He will discuss each procedure with you and develop a "roadmap" with you so that you can plan all the procedures you are interested in. During your visit you can get a general idea of the timeline for your procedures as well as the cost. At the Aesthetics Institute, we understand that cost is an issue because of the extensive surgeries that are required and we will work with you to help you achieve your goals.
Congratulations on your weight loss! We look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve the "new you" that you have been working so hard to achieve!
